Well, it's that time of year now. Summer has officially ended and we are looking at winter creeping in. The days are growing shorter, and the nights are getting longer. The hot sunny days at the beach have been replaced by long nights in front of the TV gaming. Result! Now there's no excuse for not being outdoors, and we can all get on and boost our GamerScore. Of course, this site is a fountain of knowledge for all things game related, and one member who always seems to be contributing is our new Member Of The Month. I introduce......
Lets start by finding out a bit more about the man behind the GamerTag.
Well, my real name is Tom, and I’m 16 years of age. I’ve been an avid gamer for as long as I can remember. I think my passion for gaming started with the Sega Megadrive/Genesis, and Sonic the Hedgehog in particular. I think my parents bought it just to keep me and my brother quiet, and hell, did it work!
I started college last month (taking Computing, ICT, Biology and PE), and it’s been consuming pretty much all of my time, so I’ve been finding it harder and harder to find time for gaming, but I find it...
When I’m not gaming, I’ll most likely be here, messing around on Photoshop, or playing some sports with friends, especially golf. I’m also a musician too, rockin’ out on guitar and bashin’ skins on drums. But still, I can’t finish Expert on GHII...
What is your gaming setup like?
I’m actually rather embarrassed about this part - it’s nothing special. I’m currently on a (very) old CRT 19” Nokia TV, (Did you know Nokia did TV’s?), so I’m not yet experiencing the true awesomeness that is HD. However, I have ordered a very nice 22” widescreen monitor from Dell that I’m expecting to be delivered sometime this week!
What is your favorite game on the 360?
The moment I first laid eyes on Oblivion, I was hooked. I must have racked up over 200 hours playing that beautiful game. I seriously advise anyone who hasn’t played it to read the review, and go out and get it; especially now that the GOTY edition has been released.
But BioShock definitely deserves an honourable mention.
And the game that makes you scream?
If you mean literally, then BioShock. I hate the way those damn splicers pretend to be dead, then pop up at the last second! My trigger’s never had such a beating.
My least favourite game however, is COD 3. It came free with my 360, and I can see why... But it confuses me that COD 2 and COD 4 are such good games. What happened, Activision?
What achievement are you most proud of?
Finding 500 agility orbs in Crackdown legit. No maps or anything! Although it was my younger brother who found the last one. I spent days looking for that last orb, and he comes along and within five minutes I hear the *Bleep* of Achievement Unlocked.
Come to think of it, I was pretty proud of getting the full 1k on THP8. I must have lucked out on the last goal, because there’s no way in hell I could ever do that again.
Which achievement is the next on the hit list for you?
It’s gunna have to be finishing Halo 3 on Legendary. I’m pretty much most of the way through it, but the mission “Cortana” is being a pain in the ass. (Thanks go out to “E k i n c i 1” for helping me get this far!)
What was the last thing you downloaded from the Arcade?
It’s been so long since I used up any MS points. But come to think of it, I think it was the Welcome to Rapture picture pack that I won here! Thanks guys!
Do you get games mainly for achievements, or for gameplay?
I buy for gameplay, I rent for achievements. That’s why I only own games that I truly enjoy. I don’t have a large collection of games, but I think you’ll agree that the ones I do own are probably the best on the platform. (Halo 3, GoW, Shadowrun, Crackdown, GHII and BioShock) However, I can’t resist a challenge, so I’ll definitely make a decent effort to unlock the achievements.
Is the 360 your only console currently? Do you have plans for any more?
As of now, the 360’s the only console I own, and that’s all I need! I used to have a Megadrive/Genesis, countless Game Boys, N64, PS1, PS2, Original Xbox, DS and now the 360. I’m one of the very few people whose first 360 has not yet died, and so long as the trend stays constant, then I won’t be buying anything else for a while.
Whats the next game that you will be getting?
It’s got to be Assassins Creed. The new trailers made me pee a little. That game looks simply amazing, and dare I say that it might even knock Oblivion from my fave game spot. Only time will tell.
Arcade-wise, it’ll be both the Sonics, so I can re-live my past experiences from the Megadrive.
And final comments….Grammar, my fellow members, is one of the essential parts that that make up a good post. What’s the point in having a great new method of unlocking an achievement if no one can understand it? So, you’ve all been warned. If I see any more “wtf i jst gt 15kilz in mp how come my ach dnt unlock.”, I will come to your place while you sleep, and you will not wake up the next morning.
